Please note that we have a new site: LifeScienceHistory.com, "Where history is made daily" under development and
delayed by COVID-19, to be launched in 2023 replacing New YorkLifeScience.com. Regrettably, we are working with reduced
staffing and the current industry directory is no longer being maintained, but will be replaced with a new and improved

SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry
| | | Phone: | (315) 470-6500 | Main Contact: | Cornelius B. Murphy, Jr., President | | Company Description | The intent of SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry is to provide focus to students with a strong interest in subjects relating to biotechnology in natural systems. It also provides an additional route for students interested in the health professions, while at the same time encouraging elective breadth in the social sciences, humanities, and environmental studies. The program is unique in being offered at an environmental science and forestry college; most biotechnology programs are centered at either medical or agricultural institutions, yet there is a growing need to apply biotechnology in solving environmental and natural resource problems. These include development of biofuels and biomass feedstocks to replace oil, bioremediation (the detoxification of polluted soils or water using living organisms), restoration of endangered tree species through genetic engineering, and the use of molecular techniques to better understand the biology of our environment.
This degree program will prepare students to use molecular, biochemical, and biological approaches to tackle environmental, natural resource, agricultural, or medical questions, as well as provide sufficient breadth for a student to enter a clinical medical career path. Students will be required to obtain a minimum of three credit hours of professional experience either in one of ESF’s research labs or as an intern at another university, an industrial lab, or in a clinical practice. An additional three credits of research experience and one credit of senior synthesis add to the uniqueness of this program. Students who complete this major will be qualified to enter the growing biotechnology related job market or continue their studies in graduate or professional school. | |
