About the Position

We are looking for a Web Applications Developer with expertise in data visualization, user interface design, and browser-based tools to join our software team. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who enjoys working with diverse teams of scientists and software developers to contribute towards our research platform.

This position will report to the Group Lead of the Software Development Team and will be based in Vancouver, Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create browser-based visualizations, user interfaces for web applications, and data analysis tools tailored to our scientists' R&D needs
• Collaborate with scientists and developers to condense complex requirements, design prototypes, and deploy production grade software for internal users
• Participate in peer code reviews, regression testing, and systematic deployments
• Integrate and maintain the developed software as part of the entire computational platform
• Experiment with new technologies and ideas to enhance the maintainability, simplicity, and robustness of our platform.

Education and Qualifications

• 2 or more years of industry experience in interactive web application development
• Proven ability to assume ownership of a web application’s frontend including design, implementation, and maintenance
• Ability to deliver rapid, iterative prototypes from initial ideas, and a drive for software development excellence
• In depth knowledge of web application testing and deployment best practices
• A good grasp of web standards and browser technology (HTTP, HTML, JS, CSS) Experience creating interactive data visualizations
• Experience with our software stack or equivalent technologies
• Proficiency in English, spoken and written.

Our software platform includes the following technologies:

• Elm for webapp frontends and visualizations
• js and React for some legacy web applications
• Go and Elixir for server development
• Python for scientific applications and modelling software
• PostgreSQL and SQLite databases
• Git for version control and GitLab+Jenkins for source code management, CI/CD etc.
