THE ROLE

We are seeking an accomplished, energetic, and detail-oriented biologist to join our R&D team as a Principal Scientist. The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and team-oriented individual that possesses the ability to work across a highly matrixed environment across sites to provide technical and scientific expertise to advance our drug discovery efforts./p>

The candidate is expected to have a strong background in cell-based assay development, cell line engineering, in vivo models, and a track record of contributing to multidisciplinary drug discovery teams. You will collaboratively make key contributions to the validation and selection of the next generation of targets using various state-of-the-art scientific approaches. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing company developing a pipeline of therapies for severe life-limiting diseases.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Contribute as a key member of a cross functional drug discovery team, leading, training, managing, and mentoring a group with in vivo, tissue culture, bioanalytical, and formulation capabilities.
  • Design and implementation of preclinical and translational models to enable target indication selection and assist in lifecycle development appropriately with Recode developmental team. Coordinate the work with teams, generate, compile, and interpret results.
  • Developing detailed experimental plans for collaborators as well as for internal investigation.
  • Lead, facilitate and document project team meetings, cross-functional communication and decision making, ensuring alignment with internal functional groups and leadership.
  • Establish and execute functionally integrated project plans to enable accurate project assessments, identification of critical path activities and areas of resource constraint. Oversee project management activities, identify and manage project objectives, work plans, timelines, budgets, providing formal and informal status updates to stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain an electronic lab notebook in compliance with company policies.
  • Interface with R&D Senior Management on project requirements, status review, and key development decisions.
  • Contribute to preclinical strategy, vision, and operation.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE

  • PhD with at least 8+ years of drug discovery experience and a minimum of 2+ years in a group leadership and management role.
  • Advanced knowledge of the drug discovery process and inter-dependencies of key research functions such as cell culture, assay development, in vivo pharmacology; Enthusiastic mentor and leader with experience managing research scientists.
  • Hands-on experience with RNA based therapeutics including mRNA, siRNA and lipid nano particle delivery systems strongly.
  • Extensive experience drafting detailed experimental plans and managing scientific collaborations.
  • Strong background in respiratory disease and immunology preferred.
  • Excellent communicator with exceptional verbal, presentation, and written communication skills; Proactive, innovative, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with experience developing and executing on project plans and timelines, as well as budget management.
  • Excellent working ability across a highly matrixed environment.
  • Experience with biomolecule, gene therapy, or mRNA therapeutics is a plus.
