SUMMARY
The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) will support the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department for all of the US and partner with HRG in Canada. This position includes assisting in the creation and maintenance of HR policies & procedures, partnering with Talent Acquisition, Payroll, and Total Rewards, HR compliance, and employee services/relations. As a member of the HR team, this position will work closely with all levels of employees. This position reports directly to the Head of HR, USA with a dotted line to the Head of HR, Canada.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Process documentation and prepare reports relating to personnel activities (staffing, recruitment, training programs, etc.); compile and maintain electronic personnel files.
- Create and implement onboarding plans and educate new employees on company policies; conduct all new hire orientations virtually and/or on-site.
- Identify ways to improve policies and procedures; develop foundational HR processes and guidelines, such as Performance Management, Talent Acquisition, and HR Compliance, as identified.
- Assist and help support the Head of HR in resolving employee disputes and/or complaints.
- Help ensure compliance with company policies and federal, state, jurisdictional, and local laws in the US.
- Conduct exit interviews and analyze turnover trends.
- Proactively monitor the work environment to identify and address trends, and areas of improvement to increase employee engagement. Lead our employee engagement activities and address critical action items.
- Other duties as assigned and required.
Recruitment, Training, & Development
- Provide recruiting and hiring support to the Talent Acquisition (TA) team by using ATS; review resumes, conduct screening interviews, and background checks, and extend offers.
- Partner with TA to develop employment offers and contract terms.
- Ensure a high-touch, personalized experience for all new hires including onboarding plans, logistics, communications, new hire onboarding, and new hire surveys.
- Execute a well-organized and personalized offboarding process, including partnering with HR teammates to compile and reconcile employee feedback and recommend process improvements based on trends.
Compliance & Policy Enforcement:
- Assist with employee relations issues, interpreting Zymeworks policies and escalating to senior HR team members when needed and required.
- Help conduct confidential investigations.
- Develop a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local legislation, and jurisdiction in order to ensure compliance, including benefits laws and regulations, medical leave, and sexual harassment training continuing to grow in these as Zymeworks expands its domestic and/or global operations.
- Leverage HR expertise to advise on revising or developing HR policies and procedures.
HRIS & Benefits
- Assist payroll team with any payroll related questions/issues.
- Assist the benefits team with any benefit related questions/issues.
- Assist the Head of HR in the periodic evaluation of programs to ensure the most effective and high-quality programs./

- Partner with HRIS Analyst/Manager in the creation and preparation of necessary reports (AAP, etc.).
YOUR PROFILE
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or other related field or equivalent work experience required.
- 3 to 5 years of human resources experience required; working and supporting small to midsize organizations with remote work environments required; Biotech/Pharma industry preferred.
- Must have demonstrated the ability to translate business needs into effective HR strategies and action.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment statutes in the US; knowledge and some experience in Canadian regulations preferred.
- Proficient in the use of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) for report generation, database maintenance, and document storage.
- Working and continuously expanding knowledge of the HR space, including applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as emerging trends and practices in the HR space.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of products – required.
- Experience with Success Factors and JobVite preferred.

- Demonstrated success in all Human Resources functional areas within a fast-paced, technically focused environment is essential. Must be hands-on and capable of producing work with limited support staff.

- Strong written, oral communication, and presentation skills with the ability to present confidently across the organization, i.e. Change Management Agent, Conflict Resolution, Managerial Delegation.
