Summary

The primary function of the scientist in the analytical biochemistry core group is to provide technical support and serve in the analytical lead role for early and/or late stage CMC projects and technology development efforts. This individual will have responsibilities for method development, qualification, transfer, product characterization, and comparability studies supporting pipeline programs. The scientist will collaborate across Analytical Sciences and interface with stakeholders across process sciences, quality, and regulatory CMC to ensure timely project support. Responsibilities of the position include providing technical leadership to project teams and staff within analytical sciences in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment. Additional responsibilities include analysis of novel modalities moving into CMC from Research, authoring and reviewing regulatory filings pertaining to characterization and comparability of Seattle Genetics products, leading product quality investigations, and analytical technology development to advance the capabilities of the organization.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will lead as well as perform hands-on work in an analytical biochemistry laboratory working with state of the art instrumentation focused on biophysical characterization.
  • This person will have prior experience in characterization of biologics or bioconjugates, with hands-on expertise in relevant separation modalities, and will lead and mentor other group members in method development and qualification efforts.
  • Interact closely with cross-disciplinary project teams to support clinical development, including cell line development, upstream and downstream process development, conjugation, formulations, process analytics, quality and regulatory groups.
  • Interface with Research to analyze developability of novel molecule formats.
  • Lead intra-departmental projects or initiatives involving other contributors.
  • Independently present at department, project team, and management meetings.
  • Supervise lower level staff in either direct or matrixed reporting capacities.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in protein, bioconjugate, or macromolecule characterization highly preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of common analytical techniques (H/UPLC, CE, SEC, LC-MS) with working expertise in at least one separation methodology.
  • Demonstrated capacity to resolve complex scientific problems with appropriately designed experimentation.
  • Technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and capability to work productively in collaboration with others and independently as required.
  • Understanding of biologic and ADC CMC development and previous experience preparing regulatory filings highly preferred.
  • Supervisory experience, critical thinking and good written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or BS/MS degree with a minimum of 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
